  • You must be fluent in Mandarin and a Chinese national to apply

*This program will cover some courses for the international business minor and courses from pathway.

Important notice: While TEAN advertises that you may take between 1 and 4 courses, you must be enrolled full-time (12 US Credit Hours) at Fudan University while in this program for US visa compliance. You can take additional VT courses online, but you must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours at Fudan. You may not exceed 19 credits total between Fudan and VT.

Students can drop/add subjects at Fudan during the first week of classes only and can only pick up another class if there is space available in the class.  Students will be unable to change the total number of courses.  Students must stay enrolled in the number of subjects they selected to start the program. Please work with your academic advisor in your department as soon as possible to identify exactly which classes you need to take at Fudan, and which additional VT classes you need to take online (if any).

All students are expected to attend classes in-person unless they are ill. Attendance will be taken. Students will need to have accommodations in Shanghai or be able to commute easily.

*Fudan classes will be taught in Mandarin. Please review the course equivalency spreadsheet to know your options. You are required to complete the Authorization to Take Courses Abroad form to have your courses transfer to Virginia Tech.

Depending on the pandemic level in China, the program will operate with three delivery modes:

  1. Shanghai in lockdown - all classes offered online only
  2. Shanghai is open but Fudan main campus closed to visiting students - Courses delivered in-person by faculty in Fudan classrooms on the South Fudan campus.
  3. Shanghai is open and Fudan completely open - Courses delivered in-person by faculty in Fudan classrooms on main Fudan campus. Students receive visiting student cards to access main campus.

To ensure academic continuity and safety of program participants, classes will be offered online concurrently regardless of delivery mode.
