Transfer Credit
To get your courses pre-approved, you must submit the Global Credit Approval Form in your study abroad account (instructions and transfer credit policies are on the form).
General Information
- Transfer credit is awarded by the host institution.
- Transfer credit can be applied toward your Virginia Tech degree (only courses with a ‘C’ minimum will transfer).
- Transfer credit does not factor into your GPA and a grade does not show up on your transcript, but rather shows as T-credit.
- All Criteria for Transfer Credit
Getting your Study Abroad Transfer Credit Approved
- You must submit the Global Credit Approval Form. You can access the form in your study abroad portal once you’ve registered with our office.
- All students studying abroad (regardless of whether you’re going on a VT program or not) must register with our office. Without registration the Registrar will not accept your transcript from abroad.
Other Helpful Tools Regarding Credits
- To get any Pathways courses approved, you can fill out the Pathways Course Review Request Form found on this webpage
- The Transfer Equivalency Database reflects courses evaluated previously for transfer credit
- The International Conversion Chart shows how international credits are calculated compared to VT credits.
- Final approval of the transcript and number of credits awarded will be contingent upon the Registrar.
Pamplin students should meet with staff in the International Programs office in 3002 Pamplin to clarify the evaluation and applicability of international transfer credit.
