Partnership with Xidian University, XDU-VT 3+1 Joint Program

Virginia Tech (VT) Pamplin College of Business, in partnership with Xidian University, offers a 3+1 joint program that will help you build the skills needed to prosper in today’s dynamic and evolving global business environment.

Students at Xidian University are invited to apply for the XDU-VT Joint Program in Big Data Management and Application with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship. Students will experience studying in two countries. After completing the first three years of bachelor’s degree at XDU, eligible students will transfer to Virginia Tech to complete their bachelor’s degree. Upon successful program completion, students will earn the following degrees:

  • Graduation certificate and Bachelor’s Degree Certificate in Management, XDU (China)
  • Bachelor of Science in Business, Management EITin Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Technology, VT (US)

This international learning experience provides cutting-edge, globally focused education in the field of business and life-changing experience derived from living and studying in both China and the U.S.

The students will spend the first three years of studies at XDU, in Xi’An, China. During the time in China, VT professors will come over and teach several courses at various times throughout the year, although predominantly in the summer. After successfully completing these three years, students will seamlessly transfer to Virginia Tech’s main campus in Blacksburg. The fourth year of studies will be at Virginia Tech to complete BS studies. 

The VT Pamplin College of Business is one of a small number of  business schools worldwide accredited by AACSB International. That means graduates of the XDU-VT joint program are eligible for master’s and doctoral programs in other parts of the world. Successful completion of the program also makes you eligible for employment in government, semi-government and private organizations.

Applications to Virginia Tech will begin during the third academic year of study at XDU. The transfer application deadline is March 1st of your third year of study. Admission is guaranteed as long as requirements are met. Students must follow the application process and deadlines outlined on the Virginia Tech Undergraduate Admissions Transfer website.

Applications to Virginia Tech must be submitted using the Common Application (Common App). You are required to submit complete transcripts/mark sheets from all universities attended. A highly recognized English proficiency test score is required.(6.5 on IELTS, 80 on TOEFL, 53 on PTE, or 105 on Duolingo).  High school transcripts/mark sheets, resumes or letters of reference are not required to be submitted. Upon receiving an offer of admission and paying the matriculation fee of $400, you will be contacted by the Cranwell International Office (international@vt.edu) to begin the process of being issued a Form I-20. This is the document that you will use to apply for an F-1 Visa at your nearest US Embassy or Consulate. You are required to submit all documents requested by the Cranwell International Office and these may include a copy of your passport, Affidavit of Support, and a document showing sufficient funds to study at Virginia Tech. VT requires a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 to qualify to transfer into the VT BS program.

The student should budget for such program costs:

  • three-year tuition at XDU
  • the entire VT tuition and fees
  • the visa expense
  • health care insurance, air travel, and housing expenses at VT
